ephemera

Oh, how I wish one could change wall colors as easily as one changes clothes-- I just had an Inspired Thought. What if our living room was the color of the bathroom (pinkish-tan), and the kitchen was mustard-colored? How beautiful would that be?

. . . but I love my crimson and green ever so much too. Darn.

My concept for the color scheme of our house was that I wanted it to be kind of soft and woodsy, saturated but not bright. Which makes me very happy. But on days like today, springy and bright, I start thinking about a house done in fresh greens and yellows and aquas and creams. However, the Little Yellow House informs me that it prefers the colors it is right now, in the long run. And so do I.

In other style news, I discovered my favorite Japanese subculture last week (seriously not something I say all the time). It's called "mori girl," which means "forest girl," and I. Love. It.--the clothing style and the lifestyle concept that goes with it, both of which you can learn about on this blog. I mean really. Amazing. If I had the money, I'd dress a lot like this.

something I learned this weekend

I've always sort of thought that our house (and before that our apartment), being small, was not the best for having people over. This weekend changed that. I noticed over the last few days that when people were at our house, they stayed in the room with each other more often than groups of people sometimes do at larger houses, simply because there weren't many places to go. And I loved it. Now I'm happy about my small house and the way it holds people together.

Speaking of this weekend, what a lovely way to start spring break! Thanks so much to everyone who spent time with us-- we love having you here. Our little yellow house is looking oh-so-cheerful about the corners today, doubtless because it got to take care of such a goodly bunch.

A recent decorating success

Here's the latest decoratey thing I've done, with thanks to Mamadah for help in refining the concept and thanks to Kathryn B. for help in the implementation therof. I think it turned out rather smashingly; it makes me happy every morning when I walk in the kitchen.

Plus, this means that one room in our house is officially 'finished.' Which is a Cheering Thought.

dilemma, and a newfound love for gray

I finally had inspiration for our back room (where the tv is). I've decided on gray with bright color accents-- now the trouble is picking which gray. There are infinite varieties of gray, you know. Can't decide if I want a true gray, or a bluish or greenish one. Leaning towards greenish for the moment, but I don't know. I think I'll have to watch the light on them for a day or two.

. . . and that picture makes them all look rather blue. . . bother.

ps. some of them are very dark because I'm thinking of doing one of the walls darker, more of a slate-blue-gray. And then we'll hang our collection of old movie posters on that wall.

New favorite color combination: completely in love with orange and gray.

in which we bring home a yuletide friend

These pictures are from December 7th, when Dan and I braved a Blustery Snowstorm (of sorts. . . well, really of the imaginary sort)and wended our careful way to the friendly local Home Despot, where we searched high and low for The Perfect Christmas Tree, which we found. We are convinced there's nary a goodlier tree in All The Land.
